How should we learn? How can we learn in the most efficient way?

We do not want to spend a lot of time to understand the new science topic, but we finally want to understand it.

One of the most difficult science fields is physics. Many students are afraid of physics, they read physics books, but they do not understand them.

Some students can solve simple physics problems, but they cannot solve the more difficult ones. What should they do?

There is a special method how to improve the problem solving skill. This method is called method of questions.

The idea of this method is the following.

To understand physics we need to solve as many problems as possible. Each additional problem gives us some additional understanding of the basic concepts.

Therefore we need to solve a lot of problems. Of cause, some of them are difficult and we cannot solve them.

In this case we need to start from the problem we can solve. It can be a simple problem or a complicated one. It does not matter.

The most important is that we can solve this problem and we understand how to solve it.

Then we modify the problem and we ask the questions. It means that we apply the method of questions.

Since we know how to solve the original problem then we can solve the modified problems.

In such way we can solve many problems for the shortest amount of time.

The application of the method of question can save a lot of time in your physics learning process.

In this elementary science fair project we are going to look at crystals and we are going to try and grow crystals. In nature we find crystals in all shapes and sizes. We get ones that are considered valuable, like diamonds, and others that are not considered so valuable. All crystals have their own quality and are beautiful. Crystals are easy to grow and are therefore a very suitable elementary science fair project.

The definition of a crystal according to the Oxford Dictionary:

A piece of a homogeneous solid substance having a natural geometrically regular form with symmetrically arranged plane faces. Chemistry: any solid consisting of a symmetrical, ordered, three-dimensional aggregation of atoms or molecules. A clear transparent mineral, especially quartz.

For our elementary science fair project we are going to grow crystals in a gelatin solution. Because heat is going to be used, this science experiment should be done under adult supervision.

What you will need for this experiment:

• A 1-pint glass jar


• A cup of table sugar


• A Cup of distilled water


• 0.25 ounce of unflavored gelatin


• A small saucepan


• Spoon

The method for this elementary science fair project:

1. First you have to pour the water into your saucepan.


2. Now you sprinkle the gelatin over the water and allow it to soak for a few minutes.


3. Place the saucepan on the stove and heat the water while you are stirring to dissolve the gelatin completely in the water.


4. Continue stirring while you add the sugar.


5. Continue until the sugar is completely dissolved in the water.


6. After the solution (what is a solution?) has cooled down for about 5 minutes you have to pour it carefully into your jar.


7. Now you have to leave the jar undisturbed for at least two weeks.


8. Make daily observations and write them down carefully.


9. It might even be a good idea to take photos of your elementary science fair project every day to use in your display. Remember a good display is almost as important as the experiment!


10. Take note that more than one thing happens at a time with this experiment. What are the two things?


11. Why is it happening?

If you did this elementary science fair project right, the gelatin in the water will cause the water to set. (Think jello!) The other thing that happens is that after a few days clear crystals form inside the gel and it appears to be suspended throughout the gel. Remember to take photos every day to show how the crystals grow bigger and bigger every day. You can also draw charts to show how the crystals are formed throughout the gel.

Now you also have to be able to explain why it happens:

As you heat the water, more of your solute (that what is dissolved in the water) will dissolve in the water (called your solvent) as would have when the water is cold. Now when the water starts to cool there is more sugar dissolved in the water than would normally have been dissolved in it. Now we get what is called a supersaturated solution.

Now, as the water evaporates your solution becomes even more supersaturated and it becomes unstable, now any disturbance will cause the microscopic molecules of the solute to stick together and form crystals. At first the crystals are too small to be seen but, as they grow they become bigger and visible as they form clumps throughout the gel. The reason for the gel in your elementary science fair project is to keep the crystals suspended and thus ensuring that many crystals form.

For an even better elementary science fair project you can do more than one experiment. Repeat the above but change some of the conditions. See what happens of the solution cools down slower by maybe placing your jar in a big thermos flask. You can also use a bottle with a narrow mouth instead of the jar and see if the slower evaporation of the water makes a difference. You can even make a solution with different kinds of sugar such as sucrose glucose and fructose and see what happens then. The possibilities are endless and this elementary science fair project can be as simple or as involved as you would like.

Normally, guinea pigs are clean, and if you do not clean their cages regularly, they will possess that aroma that is lovely and familiar. What would help is bathing your pet and keeping their skin and hair healthy. Some people bath their guinea pigs every 3 or sometimes 4 months. This will be the recommended time bathing guinea pig, unless the furry friends are undergoing a skin condition treatment for lice or they have just become very messy for some weird reason. Keep in mind that bathing guinea pig frequently can lead to dry skin and also cause skin irritation.

For the preparation you will need a few things, and these are:

 3 towels Medium size bowl Flannel plastic jug Animal shampoo Soft brush Swarfega (used for the grease gland on boars)

Before bathing guinea pig, add water to the plastic bowl. Make this about two inches deep and check the temperature of the water with your elbow and make sure that the water is not too warm or too cold before bathing guinea pig. A few people use the counter top in the kitchen and fill the sink with water and use that when they have to rinse down the guinea pig. Place the flannel in the bowl and this should help the guinea pig not slip around but feel rather secure while you start bathing guinea pig. It is advisable that you have everything that you will need within arms reach. Dont leave a guinea pig unattended for one second.

When applying water before bathing guinea pig, use a plastic container with a spout. The one that came with your steam iron should work out perfectly. If you need to change the water in the basin make sure that you have a responsible person keeping their eyes on the guinea pig or their hands near its body while you turn away for a few seconds. Whatever you do, do not leave you pet unattended, especially on high surfaces.

There are different kinds of shampoo you could use when bathing guinea pig and you probably will hear about new products that prevent parasitic and fungal infestations. However, if you have to treat your little friend for any condition, you need an ordinary shampoo to penetrate the dirt and grease first before using the new shampoo to treat the infestations and other conditions.

Bathing guinea pig boars, you have to pay more attention to the grease gland and this is located near the tail area. Boars are the ones that usually have a grease gland, but a few sows have them too. It feels almost like a sticky coin. Adding a little Swarfega to the grease gland before bathing guinea pig boar will do the trick removing the grease. Allow the Swarfega to stay on the gland for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Mechanics use the product to clean their hands. The same product is ideal for cleaning the grease gland on boars.

If your guinea pig is suffering from mange mites, you need to visit the veterinarian immediately. In this case, a treatment of Ivomectin is given. A guinea pig having mange mites can cause severe pain and can also cause sores, and this is the result of intense biting and itching. Any fungal shampoo or parasite shampoo will not be successful when trying to rid the mites. You can ask the veterinarian to give the Ivomectin orally to the little friend, and this will save it from going through injections that could be painful. This is a rare condition, but the truth is that wherever you find guinea pigs you will find mange mites. If you have a litter of guinea pigs and only one of them is infected by the infestation it is best to treat all of them.

There are things to look out for before bathing guinea pig, and precautions should be taken when the little friend contracts a parasitic and fungal infestation. As time goes by, you will become used to tending to the needs and wants of these little furry creatures.
